Fire Destroys two vacation homes

It is with sadness that I write this post. White Birch Village suffered a loss yesterday. At 8:30 yesterday morning we found Cattail and Heron Haus on fire. The fire departments were unable to save the two vacation homes. The initial determination was a lightning strike during the night that smoldered in the furnace room. We are very thankful for our smoke alarms working properly that allowed the occupants to get out safely. We also are very grateful for the local fire departments that responded so quickly and did all they could to help save the building. Thankfully with the opening of our new unit we were able to re-book all our Cattail and Heron Haus guests to other units at the resort. No one’s vacation has been interrupted, which we are very grateful for. We look forward to seeing all of our guests this summer. For those who have heard and contacted us. Thank you for all your concern and prayers. John and I appreciate it very much. You as our guests are the core of our business and we appreciate everyone’s loyalty and support.

Wildlife abounds

My sister and her family were visiting this weekend. They went out in the canoe in the flowage and captured some great photos of the wildlife. Enjoy.

The flowage is full!

What a wonderful sight the high water is! It has been at least 10 years since we have seen the flowage with so much water in it. the wildlife is enjoying it. There are ducks, geese, cranes and fish everywhere this spring enjoying the wetlands. We were hoping the beaver would work on the beaver dam and they did. If the rain continues to fall in a normal pattern this year the flowage should be canoe-able all summer.

Great water levels!

The water is rushing down the spillway this spring. And once again the creek is full of fish trying to swim upstream. Late in the day you can stand on the bridge and watch the fish trying to jump upstream.

Once the vegetation starts to grow it will be interesting to see if the waterway stays open.

Wedding Day!

We were honored today to have our first large wedding on the property. Close to 100 family and guests enjoyed themselves on our property. The day started out gloomy and rainy, but a few minutes before the 4PM ceremony the sun started shining through the clouds. I took some pre-wedding photos. the area near the barn and the fish hatchery made for a great backdrop for the wedding. The wedding photography said she would share some of her photos with us. When I get them I’ll post them for you to enjoy.

The ceremony took place on the grassy area just before you walk down the steps by the fish hatchery. The bride came walking across the bridge from the picnic pavilion.

The sign of opening….docks are in!

The day the docks go in always gets me excited for the start of another season of vacationing! It makes the resort look complete. It was balmy 55 degrees outside…..far better than Monday’s morning temperature of 19 degrees! The guys were happy that it had warmed up as the water was still a little chilly since the ice just left the lake a week ago.

For each section it takes 3 guys to hold it and 2 to attach it to the previous section. There's a total of 84 sections to put in.

And the clean up begins

Now that most of the snow is gone, yes there are still piles of snow lurking about, the spring cleanup has begun. With the spring ice storms we had there are trees and limbs down everywhere. And the squirrels have been very busy nipping the ends of the pine trees off. The burn pile is growing!

Great Water Levels

With this years spring melt our water levels look great. Let’s hope we get a good rainfall this spring and into the summer to keep the water levels looking this good. On another note…..Charlie is still hanging on.

There's a little less beach this spring with the high water.

Snow, Rain, Ice equals Mess

This past week has been a huge mix of rain, snow and ice, and what a mess it makes. John I took a stroll around the property on Monday to make sure no trees went through a roof. As you will see it is going to be awhile before Charlie falls through the ice. We start spring cleaning in a week…..should be interesting. Here’s what we found………

Yes, that is still how high our snowbanks are!

Wonderful Interlude

We had a successful show in Appleton, WI. We are now enjoying a stay at Cold Spring Inn in Hubertus, WI. If you are looking for a great place to stay in the Kettle Moraine area you can’t find better B&B to stay at; Gracious hosts, delicious food and wonderful atmosphere. We are making a stay here a yearly event during the Milwaukee Sport Show. Couldn’t ask for a better place to rejuvenate between shows.

Peaceful green house next to where we eat our breakfast.
