And the hunt has begun. Charlie was found today for the first time this season.

Congratulations Steven and Jenni for finding Charlie.

Can you tell where he’s hiding?

WINDY!

It’s been a windy day here today. Power has gone out once. How many more times before the night is over, that is the question.

Surf’s up!

We don’t see white caps on White Birch Lake very often, but today they have rolling along all day.

Raft makes its way to the water

Getting ready for Memorial Day Weekend means getting the raft into the water. Here’s the pictures from winter home to summer home. It takes an hour to move the raft as our tractor moves slowly.

Winter home in Bobcat. We slip the pontoon trailer underneath to bring it over to the lake.

Creeping along.

It’s a tight squeeze near the horseshoe area

Crossing County K. We position people at our entrance and the curve before the creek road to stop traffic as we cross the road.

Pushing the raft down the creek road.

Final stretch to the boat landing.

We slip a boat underneath the raft and Andy sits and holds it in place as John motors the raft around the point.

Cruising to the final destination.

Does it really take two people to find the buoy and clip to hook the raft up?

In place and ready for use.

Crappies are biting

John and our two sons, Brian and Chris, went crappie fishing last night. They each got their limit and we know have 75 more fish to eat. Yum! John’s fishing report: Crappies are spawned out and the Bluegills are now on the beds.

Sure am glad I don’t have to clean all those fish. I just get to eat them.

Hummingbirds Arrive!

This has been an unusual spring. Early ice out, warm temps and the hummingbirds arrive two weeks ahead of schedule. I had to scramble to get food made and feeders hung.

Happy for food. They were buzzing my office window this morning letting me know they wanted their food. It always amazes me that they remember where the food hangs.

The female waiting for the male to finish eating as he won’t share at the feeder.

I think we have momma making a nest in the pine tree where the feeder hangs. I tried getting a good look, put can’t quite tell. I will keep my eye out and hopefully can get a good photo. I’ll keep you posted.

16th annual Journey’s Marathon

The 16th annual Journey’s Marathon took place this past weekend. this race is a pre-qualifier for the Boston Marathon. White Birch village Resort has the honor of hosting the starting line for the full marathon. It was a beautiful morning on Saturday for the race. Much better than last year with the freezing rain.  The race starts at 8AM and it is a hub of activity from 7:15 – 8AM. By 8:15 AM you would never know anything had taken place. It’s a fun morning.

Final Stretching

Friends and family wishing the racers good luck.

Five minutes before race time.

The race announcer begins the race each year with the traditional Irish Blessing:
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

The wheel part of marathon gets a three minute head start.

And the race begins

Even a snapping turtle was trying to see what was going on.

Docks Go In

The sure sign spring is here is Dock Day! With the warmer than normal spring we are having, the day was beautiful to put in docks. The water temp was a balmy 60 degrees!

All the posts get stored at the playground for the winter.

Main dock going in.

Floating and ready to be placed. Each section has a number with corresponding numbered posts.

John waiting for the next sections to arrive.

Our rowboats have more uses than to fish from.

I got a kick out of this picture…….beach chairs out and ready for use, just to look at dock sections. 🙂
