Charlie’s Still Underwater!
Poor Charlie is still underwater. It has been too windy to go rescue him. Hopefully Monday we can rescue him from the depths of White Birch Lake. Stay tuned for pictures.

Congratulations to Gene Jugenitz who came the closest to the date that Charlie took the plunge. Charlie fell through the ice during the weee hours of the morning on March 25th. All that you could see this morning was the buoy. Charlie looks forward to drying off and getting ready for next years trek out onto the ice. What’s up next for Charlie? Where will he show up next? If you’re here vacationing at White Birch Village this summer, you’ll have to see if you can find him!
Who will win the contest and get their name on the Charlie the Chipmunk Plaque?
April 8th Gene Jugentiz
April 15th Marsha Stierwalt
April 21st Chris Roberts and Fred Whitemarsh
April 24th Debbie Carlson
April 30th Mark Stierwalt
May 2nd Kevin Carlson
May 5th Jim Zajac
Ice out is going to be early this year. With all the warm temperatures this March the ice is melting quickly. How much longer will Charlie hold on before dropping through the ice? What do you think?
The weather this past week has been unbelievable,.several days in the 50’s and upper forties for the next week yet. I’m sure a spring snowstorm is still in our future, but for now the forecast is calling for rain. So Charlie decided he better have an umbrella with him to stay dry. Don’t forget to send in your guess for when the ice will go out. Their have been several guesses so far, but we would love to see more. Mail them by March 20th.
Pick a date, mail in $5 to White Birch Village Resort PO Box 688 Boulder Junction, WI. Make sure to have your date, money and contact info included. $2.50 goes to the Northwoods Wildlife Center as a donation (the same place we donate those northern pikes to in the summer), and the other $2.50 goes in the winners pot. The pot will be awarded to the winner or split by the winners depending on how many pick the day.
If Charlie sinks after dark he will be credited to the next day. John and Sue need some sleep too. 🙂
All entries must be in our post office box by March 20th. The ice can go out as early as late March and as late the end of April. It has even been known to wait until the fishing opener the 1st weekend in May. So choose your date carefully.
Good Luck and we hope you have fun with the first annual Charlie the Chipmunk Contest. Come back often as we will keep updating photos of Charlie.
As we said in our newsletter Charlie the Chipmunk was arriving for our first annual Ice Out Contest. On March 1st Charlie will go out on the ice to sit and wait for the magic moment when he’ll fall through the ice. Join in the fun by picking a date when he’ll go through the ice.
