Please help the Town of Boulder Junction by filling out their survey. Here’s the information.

The Boulder Junction Economic Development/Connect Communities Committee (BJEDCCC) was formed by the Town of Boulder Junction in 2016 with a mission to develop and promote economic opportunities and explore investment options supporting our strategic economic development objectives and activities to enhance ongoing community prosperity. The first step in creating a strategic plan to fulfill that mission was to gain insight from the community by creating a survey. The results from that 2016 survey have helped the BJEDCCC prioritize work groups, projects, and outreach for the past six years.

Since many things have changed since 2016, the BJEDCCC has created a new survey to gather opinions from both former and current residents, business owners, property owners, visitors, and others with a vested interest in Boulder Junction regarding the town’s current economy, to determine if there is a desire for economic change.

You can take the survey only one time per person. The survey should take between 10-25 minutes to complete, depending upon the answers given. At the end of the survey, you will be given the opportunity to enter into a drawing to win one of ten $25 Coontail gift cards.

If you don’t have a computer or internet access at home to take the survey, you are welcome to utilize the computers at the Boulder Junction Public Library during regular library hours Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 10 am to 4 pm; Tuesday and Thursday 10 am to 7 pm; and Saturday 10 am to 1 pm.

Please take the survey at https://survey.sogosurvey.com/r/XZZ2Pe.

If you have questions regarding the Boulder Junction Economic Development/Connect Communities Committee or the survey being conducted, please contact Committee Chair, Bill Spear at 715-573-8250 or [email protected].

Charlie Update

For all of you who have followed our ice out contest the last 12 years, here’s an update. Charlie knew it was going to be a long winter this year, so he decided it was time for a much needed vacation. He thought this tropical island was a better place to be than out on a cold and snowy frozen lake 🙂 He was smart to do this as the ice went out on May 2nd this year!

Spring has finally arrived in the Northwoods

We still have snow piles around the property which is slowing down being able to turn the water on. As the snow is melting, we are seeing all the debris that the December wind storm and the February ice storm  left for us. Our grounds look like it has been carpeted with branches. We also lost one of the majestic pines near the picnic pavilion that has stood there for over 100 years.

Today the sun is shinning, yeah and this weekend the docks will go in. We look forward to our 40th year of welcoming guests. See you soon!

This is just part of the pine tree that came down.

The back of the pavilion looks just as bad.

5 truck loads were filled in just 1 hour. Hundred’s more to go, but we’re doing our best to have it looking great by the time you arrive.

Our carpeting of greens.

Red Oaks gutter took a beating, along with Oriole’s stairwell railing (which has already been fixed)

Save the Rustic Road

Our beautiful Rustic Road, County K is in jeopardy.  This spring they began aggressively trimming the trees along the road, with future plans to widen the road. In doing so, we will lose the beautiful canopy that we all enjoy as we travel down this road. So many of our guests have shared their stories of how much they love this road. Please visit:  https://www.saveourrusticroad.org/ to see how you can help us to save this beautiful piece of Vilas County.

Charlie takes a swim

I was all set to give an update today for Charlie that he has fallen down on the job. Below are the photos taken yesterday, March 29th.

But with the warm temps and high winds today Charlie went swimming. Congratulations to Debby Taves who chose March 30th for the plunge.

This photo was taken at noon.

This was also taken at noon. You can see that Charlie has fallen through, but is still surrounded by ice.

By 5PM Charlie is completely free from the ice and is now resting on the shoreline.

Thank you to all 81 people who made a guess for Charlie’s plunge. Only 5 of you chose March and this was year for early ice out.

Charlie update

It rained all day yesterday. I tried to get a photo of Charlie, but there was too much fog. He’s still sitting firmly on the ice. The snow is all gone on the ice, so he’s sitting on a slick surface right now. We have a week of temps in the 40’s, but the nights are still going down to the teens, so Charlie will be sitting there for a while yet.

Our grandson, Wyatt had fun getting Charlie ready to go on the ice. Of course, he had to try Charlie on first. Then Wyatt and his dog Tiller helped to put him on the ice.

Charlie is on the ice!
It’s time for the 2020 Ice Out Contest.
Will you be this year’s winner?

This is Charlies 11th year of sitting out on the lake. We’d love to have you be a part of our Ice Out Contest. Charlie almost had to take a year off this year. With all the snow we had in November the ice has been more like Swiss cheese than solid ice. But thanks to the bitter cold last week we were able to snow shoe out and set Charlie in place.

There are 2 ways you can send us your guess:

Send an email to [email protected]
Post it on our Facebook Ice Out post

Please do not forget to give both DATE and TIME that you think Charlie will fall through the ice. Only guesses with date and time will be accepted.

In the 10 previous years ice has gone out 3 times in March, 4 times in April and 3 times in May. The earliest he has gone out is March 19th and the latest is May 6th.

All guesses are due by March 10th. No guess after March 10th will be recorded as we will be on vacation. The person whose date and time is the closest will be the winner and get their name on our Ice Out Contest plaque. If Charlie falls through the ice during the night the date will be credited to the next day. Sue and John will be at the Madison sport show February 28 – March 1, the Milwaukee Sport Shows March 4-8 and on vacation from March 11-29. Scott and Kelly are hanging out at the resort and will be keeping an eye on him for us.

We’ll begin posting updates as soon as we are back at the resort on March 30th. Have fun everyone! Get your guesses into us soon.
