Happy New Year From White Birch Village Resort
A unique vacation experience…Where memories are made!
As the busyness of the holiday season is behind us we hope you are looking forward to another relaxing vacation at White Birch Village Resort. We look forward to seeing many of you again this year, and don’t forget to recommend us to your friends and neighbors. As a thank you, when you make a recommendation that results in a week’s reservation, you will receive $100 off your next stay with us.
It is you, our guests, who make running White Birch Village so special to us. We treasure the memories that are made each year and look forward to all the new ones that are yet to be made. May your memories of previous vacations at White Birch Village carry you through until you come and visit us again. Be sure to continue following us on Facebook and our blog.
Over 200 pictures were submitted for our calendar contest. John and Sue had a hard time choosing just 13 to make their way into the first White Birch Village calendar. Thank you to all our talented guests who submitted photos. We appreciate all the photos that make their way to our digital photo frame. Guests enjoy them all season long and we love having them to take with us to the sport shows. Many people at the shows ask if they are staged pictures we took and we are proud to say they are pictures from our guests.
Eagles Nest (new unit) Opens
Our newest and largest unit opened in June of this year. The large space provided many families to enjoy their vacation together. The unit sleeps 16; which included two queen over queen bunk beds that were enjoyed by all the kids. Additional amenities include; a Jacuzzi tub, laundry facilities, and a dishwasher.
Our Tuesday picnics during July and August were well attended, some broke previous attendance records. Our largest one was the week of August 10th with 105 people. The picnics continue to create community and meeting new friends. The week of August 3rd Larry and Linda Harlan, long time guests of WBV, shared their balloon tying skills with kids of all ages. Everyone enjoyed their talent and helped brighten everyone’s day.
Our fourth year of holding fishing seminars was a success. This year we relocated the seminars to the beach from the rec hall. This enhanced guest participation and a more hands on, practical teaching opportunity for the guides. They even caught fish off the shoreline. 2013 was another fantastic fishing year on our chain of lakes. Maybe our guests are becoming better fisherman!?
Families of all ages had fun searching in our 2nd annual scavenger hunt. The items along our nature trail were a little harder to find this year. Next year it may be expanded to the new south nature trail. 2013 marked the 5th year our treasure hunts. This beach theme was enjoyed by all. The treasure hunt will be taking a break in 2014 and will return in 2015. The WBV geocache hunt also enjoyed its 5th year with a spooky eyes theme. Families of all ages enjoy search our 50 acres for the hidden caches. The cache that was hidden inside a dead white birch log had many people searching hard for it.
Charlie continues to be a huge hit with the kids in the summer. They can’t wait to get out and find where he is hidden. Winter Charlie continues to gain in popularity. This past year Charlie decided he wanted to stick around as long as he could. He finally took his swim on May 6th! Will you be the winning person this year? Be sure to cast your vote for the 5th annual “Ice Out” contest. Charlie will set up camp the end of February. Be sure to check the blog for all the information.
If you are the show please stop and visit, we’d love to see you. Our sport show schedule is as follows:
Chicagoland fishing, Travel and Outdoor Expo – January 23-26
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Show – March 5-9
Wisconsin Sport Show – March 14-16 in Eau Claire, WI
Looking towards the 2014 season
In 2012 our minnow races were enjoyed by people of all ages. We have decided to hold the races again in 2014. This will become a bi-yearly event. Come ready to cheer on your minnow and don’t forget to think about a name for your minnow.
Every Thursday afternoon there will be a rock bass tournament for our guests. The winner of each week will be entered into a drawing and picked at the end of the season. The grand prize will be a complete musky rod and reel package.
For all of you who launch your boat on our property, you will be happy to know that the tight curves have been widened. A total of 8 trees were removed to achieve the wider space.
Two additional benches have been added to the existing bird station locations.
The Township of Plum Lake, resort location, has instituted a room tax of 4.5 % on all lodging facilities. You will notice this tax on your final bill at check-out. Sue is now a board member on the Sayner-Star Lake Chamber of Commerce. This will help to insure proper marketing of our area which uses these tax dollars.
With the loss of these two units last year a decision was made to not rebuild these units.
