Carol spent her childhood years visiting Wilsie’s White Birch Lodge on White Birch Lake with her parents, Eddie and Naomi Ackerson each year since 1942! After Carol met Dick in school, Dick would travel northward to visit the Ackerson's each year. Dick and Carol got married in1958 and continued their annual visits to Wilsie’s White Birch Lodge. In 1962 the resort changed hands and become Motel-in-the-Woods. Carol and Dick continued their annual visits with their children; Sue, Jody, Carrie and Brad. In 1981, they purchased Motel-in-the-Woods and began renovations. In May of 1982, they re-opened the resort doors as White Birch Village. They spend each summer at the Village and the winter months in Rockford, IL.

In 2006 the tradition of our family resort passes on to the next generation with John and Sue (Carol and Dick’s daughter) joining the team as managers. John and Sue were married in 1982 and have three children; Brian, Kelly and Chris. After 25 years in both the hotel and Private Country Club industries John brings with him a wealth of experience in service management. Sue has spent 14 years in children and youth church ministry and looks forward to providing activities for guests to enjoy. John and Sue look forward to providing their guests with the best Northwoods resort experience that will last into the next generation.
