A message from Carol and Dick

Dear Friends,

After looking back at some of the memories of 2001, good weather, muskies getting bigger, luau and pig roast, corn boils, and, sadly, the events of September 11 and our subsequent prayer service, it is now time to look to the future. We are sorry to see the departure of Jon and Laura Bovee, who decided this was not what they wanted to do. With the acceptance of Bill Grunwald to return, we have made the commitment to continue to make White Birch Village the best North woods vacation experience we can.

Because our experience with Katie and Marcin from Poland was a pleasant one, we have agin applied for two Polish students for the coming summer. Equally successful was our decision to have turnover on Saturday and Sunday. We will continue to have Hillcrest, Bluebill, Wren, Red Oaks, and Balsam Fir go Saturday to Saturday, and Hideaway, Oriole, WoodDuck and Teal rent from Sunday to Sunday.

With the renewed commitment to maintain the quality which we have tried to instill for the Village, we have made numerous improvements over the winter. All units will now have insulated steel paneled entrance doors and aluminum combination screen/storm doors. Teal bathroom has been completely renovated with fiberglass shower and shower door, a double sink vanity and new pine paneling similar to what we did in Balsam Fir last year.

Wren has been completely remodeled with all new windows, all new paneling, and enlarged bedroom with room for two queen beds; fiberglass shower and shower door and an enlarged kitchen with all new appliances. Additionaly, we had to cut through the floor to put in a new heating ductwork system, necessitation new carpeting and vinyl flooring. It sure looks great!

HideAway has had significant renovation also. As in Wren, it was necessary to cut through the floor to install a new heat ductwork system along with some new plumbing and timbers to shore up the floor joists, which also meant new carpeting and vinyl flooring. The bathroom was also completely remodeled with a fiberglass shower with shower door, a double sink vanity and new paneling. The living room and kitchen paneling was completely sanded and refinished.

Oriole has also been completely remodeled. The bathroom has a fiberglass shower and shower door with a double sink vanity. The kitchen is larger with all new cabinets and appliances. There is new paneling, carpeting and vinyl flooring throughout. It will also sport a new quiet furnace.

Although we were not able to complete the sports area renovation across the road, we hope to have it functional by mid-June, landscaped and completed by July.

Looking forward to another great summer and your continued support.

Carol and Dick

A message from Bill and Sue

Greetings to all our friends at White  Birch Village,

This winter has proven to be a warm and dry season which leads me to believe that the spring is just around the corner. Hopefully it will not be long in coming since after serious consideration, Sue and I have decided to accept the invitation from Carol and Dick and return to the beauty of White Birch Village for the summer season. My duties will include Manager of the resort with special emphasis on guest service. Sue will again assist me with various activities as her time permits since she has no official resort responsibilities and is looking forward to a relaxing summer.

Dick and his crew have been working real hard on the cabins and the recreation area across highway K. There is now a half court college regulation basketball court with two baskets, one for college height and the other is adjustable - probably for short people like me. There is also a regulation sandpit volleyball court, a shuffleboard court, tetherball and a horseshoe court all of which will be lighted.

Also planned is a children's splash pond including a center fountain and possibly a croquette course. All construction on the fish ponds ha been completed. There is still some work to be done with landscaping and little construction but basically all should be completed by mid June. We are considering some friendly organized competition of some of these activities during the summer.

Many of you have told us how much you enjoyed the pig roast last year and have asked that we repeat the roast again this year. We are considering including another pig roast and possibly a different type of dinner. How does a chicken or pork chop barbecue sound? Of course we will continue with the ever popular weenie roast, and the Tuesday picnic. Later in summer we will again be cooking that wonderful corn in that big old pot.

Hopefully we will again have some interesting guest activities to tie in with the Tuesday picnic or maybe with a special evening dinner at some time during the week.

Sue and I are looking forward to seeing you all this summer. Start planning on a fun vacation here at White Birch. If you have any comments or questions regarding the activities, please drop us a note at White Birch Village, P.O. Box 284, Boulder Junction, WI 54512 or email us at carolanddick@whitebirchvillage.com. We would love to hear from you. See you when you get there.
