Newsletter - March, 1995

Dear Friends,

This will be our fourteeth summer at White Birch Village and many of you have been with us for several or all of them. We are very appreciative of your continued patronage and friendship. We have also enjoyed getting to know our one-time guest and look forward to seeing you again. These years have been very rewarding for us and we hope to continue as long as we are able.

To those of you who sent pictures for our newsletter, we thank you. So many of you responded, we will have to make it a yearly affair.  We're sorry if you don't see yours, but, being limited by space, we couldn't use everyone's.

Our nature lovers continued to be delighted by: *loons, herons, eagles, osprey, ducks *baby flickers at the beach *feeding the fish *friendly chipmunks *watching the muskies by the fish hatchery *the doe and two fawns across the road *an abundance of colorful mushrooms *bear visitations.

A mother raccoon was kept busy moving her babies from the Spa to Red Oaks to Hillcrest and finally to a tree as the season progressed.

Many large fish were caught by young and old, one of which was a 48 inch musky that was released for someone else to find. A 35 inch musky that hit on a dead, inch-long crappie minnow disproves the need for fancy baits. The usual stringers of large bass were taken from Irving Lake. And as always, the panfish were waiting for children's poles at the end of the dock.

Work continued across the road and progress was made toward restoring the land to its natural setting. Gates were put up to make it secure. Plans for this summer include creating a permanent spot for boat trailers, continuing with the landscaping, and getting started on laying out the nature trails.

Mallard and Loon will be available for limited rentals in '95. Please call after May 1 for openings. We hope to have these available for short notice bookings.

The DNR has new regulations for 1995 that will affect all of us. Everyone will be required to have their own life vest when in any sized boat. It is anticipated that these regulations will be enforced, and therefore, it is important you make every effort to have your vests with you. We will continue to supply boat cushions and a few life vests will be available for emergencies.

As always, we look forward to a summer of good friends, good weather, and good fishing.

Carol and Dick
