Newsletter - March, 1993 Dear Friends, Since closing our books from the 1992 season, we have had some difficult decisions to make on the resort. The renovation of the Village to the high levels of quality and service have resulted in our taxes increasing fivefold, our insurance increasing fourfold, and a doubling of labor costs. (These costs do not include the new property across the road.) Our hope is that the combination of the rate adjustments and attention to savings will reduce our continuing deficit. You are part of our summer family and the reason for having the Village. Your understanding along with your past and future patronage is appreciated.
On the brighter side, even though last summer was cold, our White Birch Village guests and their activities were great. We remember one very dark night when the power went off. The fishing was good with many muskies being caught. Two seven-year-olds caught keepers, one on his birthday. With the addition of the new dock at the beach area, mooring was made easier for boats or all sizes. The game room was also updated with new games, including electronic darts.
1992 marked the last year for Paul and Glenna. We have been so very fortunate to have their services while we are unable to be at the resort. They do such a fine job.
We were saddened to learn of the deaths of three long time guests, Emily Backlund, Annie Donohue and Bill Rothe. We will miss them this summer.
Before the '93 season opens, we will complete the installation of new siding on Wren and BlueBill. The bathroom will be renovated in BlueBill along with new paneling in the bedrooms. It is our desire this coming season to create a secured area for boat trailer storage on the Aqualand property.
The Malmgren's celebrate two grandchildren born in 1992, Kendria in March and Hanna in July, and look forward to another in September. Also this fall we will welcome Debbie Ritchie into our family as Brad's bride. And the most surprising news of all, we have moved into our house! Carol and Dick |
