Newsletter - February, 1992

Dear Friends,

Hard to believe we've been at White Birch Village for ten years! May 29, 1982 our first of many great guests arrived. 1992 also marks 50 years for Carol at this great spot on White Birch Lake.

This winter finds us going through each cabin making "spruce up" repairs. Due to the kind treatment of our facilities by our guests, we find repairs to be minimal. We are making some changes to the closets by installing shelves that we hope will make things easier for you.

Our new main dock proved so successful that this summer we will have a similar one by the beach. No more hassles for docking space. We are also working on some extensive equipment repairs in the spa building. The mechanicals are being rearranged and overhauled to eliminate frustrating breakdowns.

Highlights of 1991 include:

  • A welcome rise in the water level of the lake and creek.
  • Busy beavers at our bridge - they also escaped our traps.
  • Our story telling and fold arts program by Joe and Paula McHugh.
  • Tales of muskies jumping into boat.
  • Adventures on a pontoon boat on Ballard Lake.
  • A difficult year for finding maintenance labor.

The painting of White Birch Village by Debbie Stewart arrived in July of 1991. Debbie came on a weekly basis to personalize and sign prints. We know all who purchased prints are enjoying them. Prints will be available this summer for those of you who missed the chance last year.

In October 1986 we stocked a thousand 13 inch tiger muskies into the lake. In 1991 they were 29" - 32". So...in 1992 they should be legal size.  Happy fishing!

We were so pleased to again have Paul and Glenna for the month of September. You have been so good to them over the years. We are grateful to them and you. We had a marvelous month in Switzerland.  We could not go to Yugoslavia as planned because of war, but we still had a nice two-week visit with our former exchange student as she came to Rockford in December.

Now we are eagerly awaiting the birth of a grandchild number five as Carrie is due any day now. Number six will arrive in July for Jody and Steve....A White Birch Village baby?

Thank you for your continued support and patronage these past ten years. It is our hope and desire that we can continue to serve you in the years to come.

Carol and Dick
