February, 1991

Dear Friends,

Unbelievably, this year will be our tenth summer at White Birch Village.  So many changes have taken place, both in the resort and in our lives.  There have been many fun times, some sad times, some anxious moments, so many challenges, times of hard work but with much satisfaction, and above all, many new friends.

As we look back on 1990, we remember:

  • a very cool summer
  • not enough rain
  • many new babies
  • 3 & 4 generation families
  • a circus at the beech
  • more Sunbelt mania
  • 10 crappies in one day
  • The joy of a first musky

We appreciate the efforts of Bob Duensing who came to run the office in June when Mary Lou left for a full time position.  Also, were delighted to have Paul and Glenna here for their eighth September.  Because of these wonderful people, we, along with Carol's sister and brother-in-law, were able to take Carol's father for visit with relatives in Sweden, where he hadn't been back since he left there in 1906.  It was a most emotional and rewarding trip.

Bob promises to be back in the office in 1991 and we look forward to having Paul and Glenna again. We are fortunate to have such good help in all areas of the resort.  Our good maintenance men have been installing ceiling fans in all cabins, so we will be ready for the warm summer we hope to have in '91.

Whereas we did not adjust rates last year, continued significant increased expenses, particularly utilities, taxes, and insurance, require we make changes this year.  Looking forward to seeing you all this summer.

Until then, we extend our prayers for peace and an early end to hostilities in the Middle East.

Carol
