January, 1983
Dear Friends:
We hope everyone experienced a most joyous holiday season end we extend our wishes for the very best in 1983. We appreciated hearing from so many of you. As we look back to 1982, we are grateful to all those good people who helped make our first year so rewarding. Your continued support is much appreciated and we look forward to seeing many of you this year.
Highlights of the summer of '82 included: 4th of July picnic, 12 muskies caught, blueberry picking, exceptionally good weather, happy children in paddle boats, well-behaved dogs, good cooking odors drifting from the decks, return of the eagles and humming birds, guests pot lucking, sounds of alien invaders from the game room and, best of all many new friendships made.
A review of our operating costs, insurance, and taxes (wow!) requires that we make a modest increase in our rates for 1983. However, we also anticipate expanding some of our services. We hope to add another canoe and possibly a small sail boat. Plan to supply a replacement for some or those hard pillows (fondly referred to by Village personnel as the Rocks of Gibraltar). We would also like to expand our store to include some unusual gift items by two local artists with their woodcarvings and paintings.
On October 2, our daughter Sue married John Altschwager. They spent three months in Phoenix and have since been transferred to Minneapolis where John will continue to work for Radisson Hotels.
Even though the snow is on the ground, summer and vacation time will soon be here. Our best until then.
Carol
Renovations for 1983 season
In preparation for our first season last year, all niine vacation homes were remodeled, rewired, and carpeted. New kitchen cabinets, stoves, and refrigerators were installed. Patio decks were built on most units and mushroom lights were placed along the walkways.
For the 1983 season, we will have completed a new water system. This includes a new pump for the well, new pressure tanks, as well as a 2" diameter underground main steel pipe system to all cabins. Lights will also be installed in the parking and shuffleboard areas.
If our budget permits, we hope to enlarge and remodel the bathroom in Balsam Fir, expand the deck on Blue Bill, and finish remodeling the second floor of Hillcrest. This will bring all of our accommodations up to our intended level of quality.
